Audio History of the School and Biddulph from 1916 to 1945

I have been very fortunate to have been given access to an audio collection that was recorded in 2003 as part of a project in Biddulph East. A total of 34 people were interviewed by local school children and the conversations put onto CD.

Amongst the hours of converstion I have found some people remembering the second world war, workng in the mines, Chaterley Whitfield and days at school during that period.

Conversation To listen clip speaker below
We remember troops training before they went over to France......The blackouts were on but we saw the sky light up and didn't realise that Manchester had been bombed...........

I remember that we had slates to write on, and the toilets were very cold, damp and dark.....We had milk everyday and that was frozen in the winter.........

I remember the air raid sirens going off before and after we went to the shelter (Extracts from life in Biddulph)

My childhood and days at school . Speaker born 1916

Lessons in school at Biddulph Central circa 1920, which is now Kingsfiled - Speaker born 1916

All the clips are large files and best listened to with Windows Media Player

You can also try clicking on the speaer as 'Save Target As.......' and then save to your own computer.
